a "new" 50 year old C-Lark 14
Quote from kenfabert on August 5, 2024, 7:38 pmGreetings fellow HYC members!
I'm a fairly new member, a decidedly low tech guy, and this is my first post--so bear with me!
I just wanted to see if anyone knows about C-Lark 14s and for that matter, may be able to provide me with some information on a specific boat that I suspect belonged to a former or current member of the club.
The Background:
I recently decided to see if I could find an inexpensive but serviceable daysailer/dinghy to scoot around Humboldt Bay in. I'm a long-time keel boat sailor, formerly based on Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound, with a pretty extensive cruising resume and I don't mind trying to go fast, but I'm not a racer. I'm more of a therapeutic sailor, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, I ran across a C-Lark 14 on Craigslist last week and bought it, The name on the boat is "Vannteger", sail number 442. The seller bought it a year or so ago with the intention of learning to sail, but she never did. The sails are crisp, the hull is intact, and aside from needing a few minor repairs and running rigging tweaks, it looks like nothing major is required. And a dead giveaway to the HYC connection is a decal on the centerboard trunk detailing HYC racecourses on Humboldt Bay and Big Lagoon.
Is anyone familiar with this boat? I do have a few rigging questions and in general, I'd like to connect and hear whatever stories come with the boat.
I'll be at the potluck tomorrow night (8/6/24), and I hope to learn more!
cheers,
Ken Fabert
